Everything a dev & DevOps day needs

Lightweight, keyboard-first, and built to stay out of your way.

Security first, not an afterthought

OS-encrypted secrets

Saved passwords, private keys and snippets are encrypted with your operating system's secure storage (Windows DPAPI via Electron safeStorage).

Host key verification

Every server's fingerprint is remembered. If it changes, you see the old and new fingerprints and must confirm before connecting.

Sandboxed app window

Context isolation and the Chromium sandbox are on, and the window can't navigate to outside pages or open extra windows.

Encrypted backups

.essh backups use AES-256-GCM with a key derived from your passphrase via scrypt.

Safe file handling

Downloads can only write inside the folder you choose, and executable files can't be launched straight from a server.

No telemetry

easy-ssh doesn't phone home. The only network connections it makes are the SSH connections you start.

Keyboard first

Ctrl+KCommand palette: snippets, hosts, modes, themes
Ctrl+Shift+PPalette while the terminal has focus (optional)
Ctrl+NNew connection
Ctrl+BCollapse / expand the server sidebar
Ctrl+Shift+CCopy terminal selection
Ctrl+Shift+VPaste into the terminal

FAQ

Is easy-ssh really free?

Yes. It's free to download and use, and the source code is open under the MIT license.

Windows shows “Windows protected your PC”. Is it safe?

The installer isn't code-signed yet, so SmartScreen warns about it. Click More info → Run anyway. You can verify the build yourself from the public source on GitHub.

Does the file manager open a second connection?

No. File Manager uses SFTP over the same SSH connection as your terminal, so there's no extra login.

When are macOS and Linux coming?

Soon. The app is cross-platform under the hood; Windows ships first.

Where is my data stored?

Only on your PC, encrypted with your OS's secure storage. Nothing is uploaded anywhere. Use an encrypted .essh backup to move it between PCs.
